Motion Graphics for DesignUp 2019
The context
DesignUp Conference 2019 was held from 25th to 27th Oct in Bangalore, India. The visual theme for the event was 45 degree motion. I had less than a month to prepare some of the key elements that needed to go on the giant 10 ft x 40 ft screen, and that, was the simpler part of the problem. The bigger part of the problem was that I had to learn Adobe After Effects to do it. It’s true that I’d done animations before, but some 10+ years ago on Flash when it was owned by Macromedia. It’s also true that I’d used After Effects before, but the best I did was move a box from left to right. This was my first real project.
I’d to push OBJECTIVE BASED LEARNING to its limits. I took this extreme learning and execution as a design challenge and made sure I’m being extremely optimal about how I learnt and executed at the same time. This deserves a completely separate blog in itself which I totally plan to write someday.
What you see on this page is the result of the one month preceding DesignUp 2018.
The Speaker Introduction
We wanted to introduce every speaker on the stage with a bang! We felt that playing this clip as the speaker walks up the stage causes that effect.

The loop
This loop was the fallback filler loop which was shown every time there was a break.
One of the trickiest thing to pull off in this video was to make it a perfect loop. Part of the trick involved matching the phase of the wavy background at the start and end of the clip.
The Widescreen Experience
The following video was the actual resolution that was used for the event to maximize the immersiveness by utilizing the full extent of the 10 ft x 40 ft screen
